Pretty Pumpkins // Decorating Pumpkins without Carving

The end of the year is almost upon us! Who else is surprised that tomorrow is October? Here in Houston, we are anxiously awaiting that first cool front, and our temperatures are expected to drop 10 degrees this weekend!

As a kid, I remember going to the pumpkin patch this time of year with my family and picking out the perfect pumpkin and coming home and carving it with my Dad.  He would carefully cut the top off in a perfect circle and my brothers and I would dig out the guts and seeds.  Gooey goodness.  My Dad is an artist and so good at carving very creative faces into pumpkins.  I'm not so good.  I still think carving is a fun thing for the kiddos, but these days, I'm really intrigued by the painted and embellished pumpkins.

I love the different colors, patterns, and designs I'm seeing along with the typography pumpkins.  With paint, your pumpkin becomes a blank canvas that you can use to display your personality and particular design aesthetic. I've seen pumpkins colored with craft paint, spray paint, milk paint- you name it- and all colors of the rainbow. Glitter, nailhead trim, beads, sequins, and thumbtacks all become proper accessories for pumpkins.

Are y'all carving or painting pumpkins this year?

Happy Friday! If you're looking for some weekend reading, you can check out these super popular pins I've pinned on my Pinterest boards lately.  And for you bloggers, I also wrote a post about growing your blog with Pinterest that you can read HERE.

How good and easy do these look!  I think this is something even my picky 3-year old would like.

Tex Mex to Go via Honey We're Healthy- 493 repins

This is one thing I make all the time and don't really get tired of.  Portion out your servings for a quick, healthy meal to eat at home or take to work.

Healthy Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies via The Skinny Fork - 177 repins

I'm anxious to try these because they look delicious and have no oil, flour, eggs or added sugar.

Calming Entryway via Amanda Carol Interiors - 139 repins

I'm fortunate to call Amanda a personal friend and I'm so excited to see her interior design business taking off.  Isn't this entryway pretty?  Sometimes it's just a few simple things pulled together that makes a dramatic impact.

This looks like a perfect (pretty!) solution for how to organize all those recipes I've pulled from magazine pages or printed from the Internet.

Long, Layered Haircut via Hairstyles & Beauty- 96 repins

Such a classic, sexy cut.  The long layers provide a lot of volume and fullness.

Vintage Fall Dining Room via Liz Marie Blog- 71 repins

Isn't this gorgeous?! The throw blanket sure cozies things up and I'm a huge fan of typography art. I also like how she mixed in the metal chairs to keep it interesting.

Ah, Marissa- love this graphic you created, such a good visual!

Top 10 Neutral Rugs that Aren't Sisal or Jute via Kelly Market- 122 repins

I love that Kelly listed all the sites for these gorgeous rugs.

I saved the most pinned item for last- these cute tulle/ribbon wrapped pumpkins.  5,854 repins!

Unfortunately, when I click on the pinned picture it doesn't go anywhere!  Does anyone know the original source? *Update: I hear they are from Grandin Road (part of a kit), but I couldn't find the direct link.

Have a great weekend!  We'll be attending our son's first soccer game on Saturday- or as I've now heard it referred to: magnet ball! Should be pretty cute watching a bunch of 3-year olds huddle around that ball. :)

Happy Fall Banner // Free Printable

Something about this time of year makes me want to cozy up inside and make things- delicious food, yummy drinks, decorations and crafty things.  I guess it's because we spend so much time outdoors and at the pool during the summer and Fall represents time to start coming together indoors and hibernating.

I stumbled across a delightful new DIY blog, 30 Handmade Days and got some new inspiration.  I adore this free printable FALL banner she created. Just use rope, string, or ribbon to tie it all together.  A sweet way to welcome Fall into your home.

Happy Fall to YOU!

Rustic Glam Fall Mantle

Was the first day of Fall as gorgeous in your city as it was here?!  We got to experience a significant drop in temperatures and a morning without humidity- pretty near perfect!  In honor of the official start of Fall, I put together a "rustic glam" mantle.  Of course, we don't really have a true mantle, so our console table subbed in.

I got some glam inspiration from this little fox I found at Target.   Have you seen him yet? I passed him up a couple of times, but recently couldn't resist. Foxes are the new owl. :) He was originally a nice, light natural wood tone, but I sprayed him gold.  He's wearing a handwritten welcome tag and sitting next to my very favorite Pottery Barn lamp.

I wanted the main scheme of the table to focus on the (mostly) real pumpkins and a few pops of bling.  Oranges, cream, and forrest green are so pretty together with metallic silver and gold. I felt the display was rustic with the wooden dough bowl, woven basket below, veggies, and burlap lining the bowl.  I almost embellished the pumpkins, but went with my friends on Instagram (@honeywerehome) who recommended keeping them natural.  Thanks for weighing in! :)

I found the eucalyptus at Hobby Lobby for just a couple of dollars and placed them inside hammered vases from Target.  They were both originally silver and I sprayed one gold.  I love the height, shape, and natural color of the eucalyptus.

I found the dough bowl at a Christmas fair and use it all year long. Most of the time it's in the kitchen holding onions, potatoes, garlic, avocados- items I cook with often.  Here, I lined it with cream-colored burlap and fit 11 small pumpkins and a few mandarin oranges (to fill in the gaps) inside.

This table is fitted with a shelf below so I like to take advantage of the extra decorating space.

The mercury glass candleholders were from Target (I think) as were the candles.  I wrapped ribbon and washi tape around the candles and added a decorative leaf to two.

To pretty up the pillows, I added decorative ribbon.  The burlap and satin ribbon is my favorite.  The ombre green throw is from West Elm.

I made the wreath very easily with faux hydrangeas and a straw ring form.  Go here for the full tutorial.

Affordable & Original Abstract Art // T30 Gallery + Bedding Options

While browsing Etsy for abstract art recently, I came across an artist whose work I really admired.  CarolLynn is an artist in Sacramento, California with Etsy Shop T30 Gallery.  I emailed her about a piece I was interested in, and asked if she could do a similar painting in a larger size (36x36) and she obliged. (There's a coupon code below for you too:) Here's what I was looking at online- a very calming mix of blueish-grey and sandy taupe.

And here's how the finished piece looks hanging in the bedroom.  (I got to see a preview of the finished product online before accepting it.)

The zebra pillow is from West Elm (here's something similar), the solid blanket is from Target, and the duvet is from Restoration Hardware, but I couldn't find it on their website.  Pottery Barn has some similar styles:

Sienna Paisley (on sale)

The Ben Ourain rug is from Pottery Barn (love it)! and it's on sale right now.

I originally planned the art for the living room, but in person decided it fit better with the grey tones in the bedroom wall paint as opposed to the more taupe-grey living room walls. I love how well the abstract art works with the bedding.

Below is a small sampling of CarolLynn's work (T30 Gallery) and she can also do a custom piece.  She offers free shipping on all domestic orders.

Maybe you see something you like?

T30Gallery is offering 20% discount until October 1st.  Use code: 20FORHONEY

Have a GREAT weekend!

Nail Polish + Outfits

I have to admit, the funky nail art trend that is popular now has never really been my thing- even though I kinda like it on other people. But hot solid nail color I'm definitely down for, perhaps with an accent ring nail color.  I've been seeing so many amazing hues lately, I'm looking forward to trying them all!

I picked my Top 4 (because I couldn't narrow it to 3) colors and paired them with an outfit that I thought would be cute for Fall.  Then, I shopped Nordstrom to find the looks for us! I also went to OPI's website (which I'd never previously visited) and it's so cool- you can "try on" their colors, making your skin different shades and your nails different lengths.  Check it out!  The Essie nail site is good too, but it doesn't have the try-on option.
