Big Boy Room Paint

I hope you all enjoyed a nice long weekend!  I made some progress on my son's room, including changing up the wall color and adding a colored ceiling.  You might remember his nursery walls were light blue "Blissful Blue" by Sherwin Williams and the ceiling was "Divine White" also by Sherwin Williams.

Now, he's got darker walls "Indi-go-go" by Benjamin Moore (color matched at Sherwin Williams) and a light blue ceiling "Honest Blue" by Sherwin Williams.  There is a Sherwin Williams near my house, so that's where I get all my paint.

Below are the paint formulas if you're interested.  I can't wait to get his bed (should be delivered this week) and drapes (backordered until late June!).

Layered Cowhide Rugs

I'm a big fan of the layered rug look, especially when one of the rugs is a cowhide.  I have a large greyish cowhide rug from Z Gallerie that was previously in our living room, on top of a sisal rug on our hardwood floors.

But, I also liked the look and feel of the cowhide rug in my office.  Liking the rug in both places, I ordered another hide rug (this time a spotted leopard cowhide rug from Jersey Road) for my office.  But, ug, it was way too small for the room!  I LOVE the rug though and it didn't come larger, so I tried layering them together in my office.

I consider it a happy accident!  The smaller one doesn't have quite the cool shape of the larger rug so I definitely like how they look layered.

Staircase Makeover

Forever making changes to our home and that is the fun and creative part.  The curved staircase is one of my favorite features in this house, but it has been a little challenging for me to decorate over the years.  November and December are easy because the space is perfect for the Christmas tree.  January to October, hmmm . . . .

This weekend I finally hung some mirrors on the wall.  I tried one large starburst mirror at first, but it wouldn't hang because of the curve and where the hook needed to be, so I ended up using a trio of smaller mirrors.  (On a side note, talk about starburst mirror crazy- I realized I have two in our bedroom, one in the half bath, and now three here.)

I had the blue/greyish settee from Target for a long time, but recently covered it with our Ikea throw and added some patterned pillows.  This geometric rug wasn't being used, so I added it for some fun pattern play.  I love the pop of green that the plant brings- the tag says it requires bright light so I've been moving it to the dining room window sometimes.  It seems to be doing okay for now.  The woven basket is from HomeGoods.

I already had the mirrors and was going to put them over the headboard in the guest room.  The far left mirror I had spray painted gold, then painted black when I decided to use it here.  I think they are all from Target.  The smaller one comes in a pack of two.  Seeing them photographed makes me think I need to play with the arrangement a little more.

The rug was also a HomeGoods find.  It may be too busy, but I'm working with what I have for now.

The Nate Burkus lamp is from Target also and the side table is Overstock.  What do you think of this little makeover?

I hope you have a great week!  I think I finally figured out how to make TWITTER more enjoyable for me by finding some new friends over the weekend.  If you want to follow me, I'm @honeywerehome

Leopard Print Stool Makeover

You've seen these regular wooden stools everywhere I'm sure.

I recently transformed ours into this:

I originally bought the stools from Overstock or Amazon for our bar counter.  But, they weren't the right height and I never returned them, always planning someday for a makeover.  They've moved around the house, most recently ending up in our upstairs hallway.

I always knew I wasn't fond of the reddish-brown color as it clashes with our floors.  After painting the doors grey, and adding some animal print rugs to my office, I figured a paint and fabric makeover would look good on the stools.

I pulled out my most favorite glossy black spray paint and gave them two good coats.

Laying the stools on their sides worked better than spraying them upright, because when I did that the first time, the spray paint started dripping down the legs.  Uh-oh.

Then I removed the seat and stapled some batting and fabric to the seat, making sure to cut the excess fabric and wrap nice, neat corners.  I love this fabric because it's plush and soft.

Then, it was time to screw the seat back on.

I'm so happy with the result.  Of course, now I want to exchange our current rug for a Moroccan runner.

Operation Office Organization

The best thing about a long weekend?  A short work week!  I hope you are refreshed and had a great weekend.  My family (Dad included) rented a boat on Sunday and spent a few wonderful hours on the lake.  I had some moments where I just soaked it all in that we were all together and enjoying this day, enjoying life.  How beautiful.  Back at home on Monday, I spent a good chunk of the day getting down and dirty with my office closet.  A major clean out and reorganization was necessary.  Did you do any cleaning and organizing over the weekend?  Seems like the change of seasons is upon us and before I felt ready to bust out the fall decor, I needed to get some things in order.

Ready for a few scary pics?

Yikes.  It always gets worse before it gets better.  I emptied the closet contents and it covered the entire office floor.  I've got it all put away now, and just have the little details to sort through.  I plan to purge old photos, documents, and files this week.  Then, I need to add labels- I've got sticky notes up for now identifying what's in each box.

Here's to being able to see the floor again!  This isn't what it looks like fully packed back up, but it's the only shot I have so far!

Win a Trip to Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Orlando Resort by Pledging to Drink More Water

I'm happy to partner again with Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water and share with you a chance to win A TRIP FOR 4 TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD OR UNIVERSAL ORLANDO RESORT!

I would love to take my kiddo there- I think he's probably old enough now, although I probably would bring a stroller because he still says, "Carry me!" on long walks. :)

They are also giving away a one year’s supply of Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water.

To enter to win, visit the Nestlé® Pure Life® Water FACEBOOK PAGE to take the pledge to drink more water.

I know we are fueling up on water these days, the heat and humidity has not let up one bit in Houston!   I bring water everywhere we go and usually put it in a Polar Insulated bottle (at the gym) or Trudeau Insulated bottle when I'm out running errands.

Do you bring water with you too?  I also fill up a giant cup in the morning and keep it at my desk while I'm working so I can remember to drink water throughout the day.  How much water do you think you drink each day?  I'd say I'm at about 50 ounces or so at least.

Have a great day!
